I bought “Maple flavored Rusk” and “Koge Pan-da” at “Rusk Shop in NASU Nasushiobara Station Branch,” just a 30-second walk from Nasushiobara Station.
“Rusk Shop in NASU Nasushiobara Station Branch” is just a 30-second walk from Nasushiobara Station.
This is a handmade rusks specialty shop operated by the bakery “Shelen Baum,” which I introduced previously.
The Kuroiso branch is at the same spot as the Shelen Baum Kuroiso store, but for proximity to the station, I recommend the Nasushiobara Station branch!
This time, while buying souvenirs for a friend, I also picked up some rusks for myself, so I’ll share my thoughts.

Review of my actual experience visiting
The west exit of Nasushiobara Station is on the second floor, but there are shops on the first floor.

Ordered Menu and Price
- Maple flavored Rusk (648 JPY)
- Koge Pan-da* (713 JPY)
*It’s a made-up word combining “Koge-pan” (burnt bread) and “pan-da” (“It’s bread” + “Panda”).
Maple flavored Rusk
The moment you take a bite, the flavors of butter and maple gently spread in your mouth—it’s the kind of snack that makes you go, “Wow, that’s good!” without thinking.

Because it’s maple syrup, I expected it to be pretty sweet, but it’s actually surprisingly light.
The sweetness is fairly mild, and the rich maple aroma really takes center stage.
The texture is crisp and light, making it hard to stop at just one piece.
That said, they’re individually wrapped, so it’s relatively easy to keep yourself from overeating.

The rusks were perfect for enjoying casually with coffee or tea.
Koge Pan-da
This one is a rusk made from cubed French bread.

They’re bite-sized and easy to eat, which makes them the kind of snack you keep reaching for without realizing it.

The first thing you notice is the toasty aroma of browned butter.
Because they’re baked really well, the flavor leans slightly bitter, with the sweetness kept pretty low.
The texture is very crunchy—almost hard, with a crunch-crunch bite.
That firmness is addictive, and the more you chew, the more the roasted flavor comes through.
Personally, I recommend eating them with a glass of milk.
The gentle sweetness of the milk pairs perfectly with the browned butter, making the flavor even more enjoyable.
The atmosphere inside
This is a small shop located in a compact space on the first floor of Nasushiobara Station.

They do not have a bakery on-site, so they do not sell bread.
But apparently, as part of their food loss reduction efforts, they also sell leftover bread at a discount at Shelen Baum.
I’ve never been there at that time, but I hear they put up a banner that says “Special Bread Sale Now On.”
Rusks were available not only as a regular item but also as a seasonal limited-edition product.
