My first visit to “Shelen Baum Kuroiso branch” – A fairytale bakery filled with the smell of freshly baked bread
At Shelen Baum Kuroiso branch, you can enjoy not only sweet buns and sandwiches but also cakes and even traditional Japanese sweets (wagashi).
It’s about a 20-minute walk from the station — a bit of a trek — but I found out there’s a bus from the west exit that stops near the shop, so I decided to check it out!

Review of my actual experience visiting
The building looks like something straight out of a picture book — super cute and fairytale-like!
Since it’s October, the place was decorated with fun Halloween ornaments.

As for prices, most sweet breads start around ¥200, and danishes are about ¥350.
Ordered Menu and Price
- Mushroom Bruschetta (¥378)
- Salt Butter Roll (Rye Bread with Sweet Red Bean Paste) (¥259)

About taste
The Mushroom Bruschetta came topped with sautéed mushrooms — a mix of button mushrooms and maitake — coated in a creamy white sauce and served on a perfectly toasted slice of French bread.
Each bite was bursting with rich umami flavor and that amazing mushroom aroma.
The balance between the earthy mushrooms and the creamy sauce was just perfect — I could totally see this pairing beautifully with a glass of wine. 🍷

Next was the Roasted Rye Salt Butter Roll with Sweet Red Bean Paste.
It had this incredible mix of nutty aroma, gentle sweetness, and just the right touch of salt — an amazing harmony of flavors!
Even if you’re not usually into sweet stuff, I think you’d still enjoy this one easily.

Overall, the prices are a little on the higher side, but considering the quality of the ingredients and how fresh everything is, it definitely feels worth it.
Every bread I tried had its own strong personality — I can’t wait to go back and try more next time! 🥖✨
The atmosphere inside & Service

The bakery has an amazing variety, and everything looked freshly baked.
Watching the staff bring out tray after tray of new breads was pure happiness.

There’s even a small cabin on the premises that you can use for free if it’s available.

From Nasushiobara Station (West Exit), take the bus at Bus Terminal No. 2 (For directions to Bus Terminal No. 2, please check this article).

Ride the bus for about 3–4 minutes, and get off at “Kutsukake”.

After getting off, walk in the same direction the bus was heading along the sidewalk.
