About a 4-minute walk from Kuroiso Station’s west exit, you’ll find “Tantan-tei,” a specialty shop dedicated to tantan noodle*.
They’re known for their house-made noodles and their big, juicy gyoza*.
I stopped by for dinner this time and ordered the large Tantan nodle and five handmade gyoza.
*Tantan noodle is a noodle dish with a sauce made from sesame paste and chili oil. It’s origin from China, but it’s also really popular in Japan.

Review of my actual experience visiting
As I approached the store, the pleasant aroma of sesame filled the air.

There was a sign inside that said, “Everything is handmade, starting from the noodles — even the gyoza wrappers”.

Ordered Menu and Price
I ordered a large serving of the recommended tantan noodle and five handmade gyoza.
- Tantan noodle(880 JPY)
- Large size(150 JPY)
- Five handmade gyoza(500 JPY)
Tantan noodle
The moment it was served, the aroma of sesame really hit me, and my expectations shot up.
One sip of the broth and I was like, “Yes, this is exactly what I wanted.”
The rich sesame flavor blends perfectly with the savory soup, creating an amazing balance.
The spiciness is pretty mild, making the whole bowl easy to enjoy.
The noodles are medium-thin and pleasantly chewy.
They hold the broth really well, so every bite gives you a nice burst of sesame flavor.
As for the toppings, the seasoned minced meat is full of umami, and the crunchy shredded leek and mizuna add a great fresh contrast.
It’s rich but not heavy, and one of those bowls you can easily finish without getting tired of it.

Handmade gyoza
The size was seriously impressive — each one is about 10 cm and really big.
When they landed on the table, I almost said, “Whoa, that’s huge.”
The wrappers are on the thicker, chewy side.
Take a bite and the juicy filling bursts out instantly, packed tightly all the way through.
It seems like they use a good amount of pork, so the rich, savory flavor really stands out.
They pair super well with the tantanmen, making the whole meal feel extra satisfying.

The atmosphere inside
It’s a small shop, but they have counter seating and table seating.

I don’t know how it is when it’s busy, but when I went, it wasn’t crowded, so it took about 8 minutes from ordering to serving.
When I asked about the spiciness, they told me, “The regular tantanmen is mild and not too spicy. The extra-spicy version is for people who want a lot more heat.”
