Had a Tempura Rice Bowl Set with hot soba at the Long-Standing Soba Restaurant “Kisoba Fuyou” Near Kuroiso Station West Exit
Just a one-minute walk from the west exit of Kuroiso Station, right next to Meijiya, you’ll find “Kisoba Fuyou”, a traditional soba restaurant that’s been around since 1947.
They make their soba noodles from locally grown buckwheat flour from Tochigi Prefecture and serve a variety of soba-based dishes using fresh, regional ingredients.
This time, I stopped by for lunch and ordered the Tempura Rice Bowl Set with hot soba on the side.

Review of my actual experience visiting
The restaurant has a traditional look with its tiled roof and charming old-fashioned exterior.

Although it’s mainly a soba place, they also serve udon, set meals, sake, and even desserts!
I apologize that I only have Japanese-language photos available for the menu.

Ordered Menu and Price
This time, I went for the Tempura Rice Bowl Set.
You can choose between hot or cold soba, but since the weather’s been getting chilly lately, I picked the hot one.
Just seeing the steaming bowl of soba next to freshly fried tempura instantly made me feel warm and happy.
・Tempura Rice Bowl Set (with hot soba, ¥1400)

Tempura Rice Bowl with Shrimp and Kakiage
The tempura rice bowl came with two shrimp tempura and a vegetable kakiage fritter.

The shrimp were small but had a nice plump texture, and the batter was light and crisp.
The kakiage, made with onions and carrots, was fragrant and slightly sweet — perfectly fried to bring out the vegetables’ natural flavors.
What stood out the most was their signature tempura sauce, which has been handed down and refined over generations.
It had just the right balance of sweetness and saltiness, making it one of those sauces that makes you want to keep eating more rice.
Warm soba for a cozy finish
The soba noodles were slightly thick, giving them a firm, satisfying texture.
The broth had a rich aroma of dashi, pairing wonderfully with the tempura rice bowl.
It was the perfect lunch for a cold day — I left feeling warm from the inside out.

The atmosphere inside
The restaurant has a spacious layout — table seating in the front, and counter seats plus a raised tatami area in the back right corner.

The aged wooden interior gives it a warm, traditional vibe that feels both relaxed and nostalgic.

They also support mobile ordering, making it easy to customize your meal — whether you want a large portion or extra toppings.
